Hair care tips to help promote healthy hair growth

At some point in all of our lives we have dealt with hair damage, breakage, and loss. It could stem from numerous reasons why; including but not limited to over styling, lack of knowledge, personal health issues and even genetics. I am going to give you a starting guide to get you on the right track to start your hair growth journey. These tips have helped me throughout life and always are my go to when I notice a change with my hair and scalp.

I am no means a professional however these simple changes will produce a major shift for you. For all health and genetic related issues please seek guidance from your healthcare provider or dermatologist before starting any routine.**

Tip #1 - Drink Water!!!!

Just like your body needs hydration your hair does too. Increasing your water intake helps to prevent your hair follicles from getting brittle and split ends. Drinking enough water helps your hair shaft from root to tip and also helps with common scalp issues such as : dryness, itchiness and dandruff. Get fun with your water by adding fruits!! I personally like to switch it up between lemons, limes, cucumbers, strawberries and blueberries!!

Tip #2 - Take your Vitamins

Vitamins are essential for hair growth. Most people who experience thinning and hair loss are usually suffering from a vitamin deficiency. Lack of Biotin(B7), Iron, Zinc, Vitamin A, C & D are common deficiencies. A simple visit to your doctor, professional hair stylist or dermatologist to have them do a scalp or personal history analysis can target what works best for your individual needs. A multivitamin or even a hair, skins, & nail vitamin can do wonders to get you back where you need to on your hair growth journey. There are several brands out there to get started. Make sure to do your research to find the one that will work best for you.

Tip #3 - Improve Your Diet

Once I changed my diet I immediately notice a change in my my whole body. You can do whatever works for you! Also check with your doctor first. Simply supplementing with foods can be an alternative to taking an actual vitamin. However, fruits, veggies, and meats that are high in those Vitamins mentioned in Tip# 2 play a major role with hair growth. Eating foods high in those vitamins helps to create red blood cells, promote cell growth, and carry oxygen and necessary nutrients to your scalp and hair follicles. There are tons of fruits that help with hydration due to the internal make up of mostly water. Some of my favs are watermelons, cucumbers, and bananas!!

Tip #4 - CLIP YOUR ENDS!!!!

When is the last time you clip your ends??? This is a reminder to do so at your next appointment. If you are ones of the blessed ones that can do your own you are lucky!! But if not PLEASE seek a licensed professional to get rid of the dead ends. Clipping your ends often helps to rid any split and damaged hair. We all love length but holding on to the those split ends only drives the split further up your hair shaft causing the hair to break off expeditiously!!! It is best to get on a schedule so you won't forget. Everyone hair and scalp is different so your individual routine may different from the next. Your hair will thank you within 6 months to a year. Trust me.

Tip #5 - Moisturize your hair

Keep your hair moisturized!! No matter the hairstyle. Regardless, if you are wearing braids, wigs, or sew ins. Make sure to take care of your hair underneath! Never leave the style up too long. On wash days properly shampoo to rid of any product buildup and condition your hair. Deep Conditions and hot oil treatments are your best friends!!! In between wash days make sure to oil your scalp often. Its also best to spritz a light leave in conditioner or even a water/oil/leave in conditioner combo every few days just depending on how fast your hair soaks up moisture. Give your hair a break as well with low maintenance hair styles. Tension from over styling or tightness of the style are main causes leading to hair loss and thinning. I personally think "Hair Breaks" should be done at least a week in between just to let your hair and scalp BREATHE!
